Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas took a walk in a blindfold along the city’s streets to learn more about the challenges faced by the blind and partially sighted.
The MP was joined by staff from Guide Dogs as she began the walk from Blatchington Court, assisted by a sighted guide.
Ms Lucas used a cane for part of the walk before being helped by a guide dog in the last stages of its training.
Brighton and Hove city councillor Christopher Hawtree also took part in the blindfolded walk.
The journey included negotiating the busy Seven Dials roundabout before the group returned to Blatchington Court.
During the walk, Ms Lucas became instantly aware of the hazards that street clutter present and she was told about the Guide Dogs’ campaign to encourage businesses to rethink the positioning of their ‘A’ boards and street furniture.
Ms Lucas told staff the experience had been “inspiring and really humbling”.
