A caravan owner was given two parking tickets in as many days – despite the vehicle being parked on his drive.
Julius Rost, 40, from Davigdor Road, had parked the caravan outside his house for the past three years without a problem.
But twice last week he was slapped with a £70 fine from Brighton and Hove City Council traffic wardens.
The tickets were issued for “parking in a restricted street during prescribed hours” as his caravan stretched out 1ft on to the pavement with both the rear wheels sitting inside his drive.
But Mr Rost claims the tickets were issued after the enforcement officer told him “we’ve been told to dish out more tickets this week”.
Mr Rost said: “It’s been there for three years and I’ve never had a ticket in that time until the two last week.
“The back is overhanging by one foot and I think they are just trying their luck. It’s an outrage
"I spoke to the traffic warden and they told me they have been instructed to put tickets on everything at the moment.”
'Police matter'
The council denied Mr Rost’s claim but has since cancelled the tickets after claiming it was a “police matter”.
A council spokesperson said: “Our enforcement officer issued a ticket following complaints because the vehicle posed a clear obstruction on the pavement, as seen from the photo, particularly for wheelchair users or parents pushing a pram because you have to go into the road to get past the vehicle.
“Our enforcement officers have to make on-the-spot decisions about contraventions and sometimes it’s not always black and white whether a breach has occurred.
“That’s why we offer a robust appeals process, but in this case when it was brought to our attention we quickly cancelled the ticket because we think this obstruction is a police matter as the vehicle is causing an obstruction on the pavement.”
A Sussex Police spokesman said it was not aware of receiving any complaints related to the vehicle.
