Preparation work for a major hospital redevelopment has started.
Scaffolding has gone up around the former St Mary's Hall School in Brighton as part of work to make the site suitable as a base for staff from the nearby Royal Sussex County Hospital.
The hospital is due to undergo a £420 million redevelopment that involves pulling down and replacing its oldest buildings.
Some patients and staff will have to be moved to temporary locations in the hospital grounds and at St Mary’s Hall while the work is being done.
The main redevelopment, which is still waiting for final approval from the Treasury, is not expected to start for another year at the earliest.
Kier Construction workers will be taking the roof off the main building at St Mary's Hall, which is Grade II listed, to carry out weatherproofing and other remedial work.
The construction team has installed a temporary roof structure to sit above the original while it is being replaced.
The original roof will be put back in place once they have finished.
