The body of a man has been found on a beach between Rottingdean and Saltdean.
He was found by a dog walker on the shore near Saltdean Lido at about 8.30am today.
He has not yet been officially identified but it is believed he was in his 40s.
No cause of death has been given so far but the circumstances are not believed to have been suspicious.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the man in the time before his death.
"Anyone who was in the area of the undercliff between 7am and 8.30am and who may have seen a man described as stocky, white, with short grey hair and wearing a blue hooded top with writing and blue jeans is asked to contact police."
Anyone with information can call Sussex Police on 101, quoting serial 0344 of December 29.
