The Xcerts

From: Brighton via Aberdeen

Influences: Nirvana, Weezer, Elliott Smith, Brand New, Bruce Springsteen and Bon Iver.

Profile: When they recorded their debut album In The Cold Wind We Smile, with Idlewild producer Dave Eringa, The Xcerts introduced themselves as a heavy rock band for indie lovers, giving themselves the label 'distorted pop'.

With the follow-up Scatterbrain, which was recorded over two weeks in a New Jersey basement studio with Taking Back Sunday producer Mike Sapone, the trio of vocalist/guitarist Murray MacLeod, bassist Jordan Smith and drummer Tom Heron are set to show a new side to their sound.

Describing their debut as like a greatest hits of their early years, its follow-up, written in a six-week break between tours, is a much more experimental beast.

And it is also louder, with the band having to cancel some shows after they returned from the sessions because Murray had screamed his throat to pieces in the studio.

“This is an album lover’s album for the fans of the band," says Murray. "It’s not about a particular track or single and should be listened too as an entire body of work with an open mind. We hope everyone falls in love with it like we have.”

Scatterbrain was released on Xtra Mile records in October 2010..
