Soccer96

From: Brighton

Profile: Stripped-down, amped-up Brighton duo Soccer 96 are based around analogue synth player and vocalist Danalogue, and drummer Beatamax.

In March, the pair released their selftitled debut album, which was recorded at the studio owned by Stereolab’s Joe Watson, produced by Rob White and engineered by Jack “Silko” Eveleigh, who has previously worked with Neon Indian.

Although their music draws on video-game culture, the pair are keen to point out that it is more to do with the energy of completing a level, rather than the computer aesthetic. As they say, “Soccer96 play rock shows, not cybercafes.”

They were inspired to record the album after meeting their producer, White, at only their third live show. “He was certain we should go analogue and record live takes onto tape,” says Dan.

The band has since shared stages with Three Trapped Tigers, BLK JKS, Dan Friel and Islets, and featured on Tom Robinson’s BBC Radio 6 Music Introducing show.
