Maggie And MartinFrom: Brighton Profile: Maggie K De Monde is a veteran of the Brighton music scene, having scored hits with the bands Scarlet Fantastic and Swans Way. Meanwhile Martin Watkins has been working with cult hero Marc Almond as his pianist for the past two decades. Their new album Union sees the two come together to create torch songs with a touch of 1960s exuberance and 1970s pop feel. As well as cracking the top 30 with both her previous bands, which led to appearances on Top Of The Pops, The Tube and The Old Grey Whistle Test in the 1980s, Maggie has been working with Graham Crabb of Pop Will Eat Itself in the band Mighty K. Martin produced and mixed Almond’s 1996 French album Absinthe and has toured with the singer in an acoustic duo. He recently scored the music for new British indie movie The Best Little Whorehouse In Rochdale. The pair were introduced by mutual friend Clayton Littlewood, who asked them to write songs for his West End play Dirty White Boy – Tales Of Soho. They spent the next two years writing and recording the songs for Union, which was produced by Martin Watkins and released in May.
