Snowfall has brought chaos to the county with schools closing, tailbacks on the roads, cancelled trains and delays and diversions on bus routes.
And with more snow showers predicted for today in East Sussex, especially across high ground, the problems look set to persist.
No trains were running between East Grinstead, Uckfield and London this morning while all other services were operating with up to 50-minute delays and many were cancelled.
Buses were also struggling with the snow and some routes were being diverted.
Traffic was heavy and some roads were shut including Falmer Road, Woddingdean.
Motorists are being urged to avoid Buxted High Street, East Sussex, after a car hit a gas main at 6.40am.
School closed so far in West Sussex are: The Herbert Shiner and Petworth Primary in Petworth, Oak Grove College in Worthing, Compton and Marden Church of England School near Chichester and Oriel High School in Crawley.
In Brighton and Hove another five schools have been shut: Downs View Special School in Woodingdean, St Bernadette's RC Primary, St John the Baptist RC primary, Falmer High and Woodingdean Primary.
