A resident of Brunswick Town has created an online petition in an effort to curb late night binge drinking in the area.
Valerie Paynter sent an email to people from the nearby area asking them to sign a petition on Brighton and Hove City Council's website to try to stop pubs staying open late.
She said: “Brunswick Town area is fast becoming an anti-social rival for West Street at its seething, raucous, violent and drunken worst.
“We are asking the city council to call a halt to allowing any more alcohol licences or post-midnight opening hours in Brunswick Town - especially along Western Road.
“Applications for clubs, bars, and cafes to sell alcohol and remain open virtually all night long are now lodged so frequently that residents within what is said to be the most densely populated area in the whole of Europe feel both threatened and under siege.”
Brunswick Town contains the highest concentration of Grade 1 and Grade 2 Listed buildings outside of Bath and Edinburgh, she said.
Mrs Paynter said the area: “Needs to be protected from the degradation and squalor the ever increasing all night activity heaps on this highly important conservation area.”
The petition has to be handed in by the March 10 for a review on March 24.
