A TEAM raised over £1700 during a three-day rowing effort at Sea Life Brighton’s annual Turtle-Row-A-Thon event.
The money raised this year will be going towards a project in Peru where LED lights are being placed on fishing nets to help reduce the number of marine turtles getting trapped. These funds will help the Sea Life Trust to save the lives of up to 1500 turtles over the next two years.
The Sea Life Brighton team rowed on static machines and covered 190,000 metres – a tenth of the migratory distance of a marine turtle.
General Manager at Sea Life Brighton Max Leviston said: “Year on year this event gets bigger and better, and it was wonderful seeing members of the general public cheering us on and even doing a bit of rowing themselves!
“It feels fantastic to have reached our fundraising goal.
“We’re committed to raising awareness of and supporting projects by the Sea Life Trust, including protecting the lives of endangered sea turtles in Peru.”
