A car which crashed through a level crossing before making off from police has been found.

The road near Berwick railway station, near Polegate, and the level crossing were closed yesterday afternoon after a blue Alfa Romeo crashed into barriers during a Sussex Police chase.

The car, which is believed to have been stolen and on cloned plates, was found by officers in Horam and is being investigated.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "A vehicle – a blue Alfa Romeo Stelvio V6 – was being pursued northbound by police as it was believed to be stolen and on cloned plates.
